Sometimes, just sometimes – intellectual property can be cool.

Glad to reveal that A.J. “HatPerson” Mazur, scholar/gentleman/and the co-creator of the Lil’ Jon-Lazy Town Remix “Cooking By the Book” mini-YouTube meme will be showing up to chill throughout the day at ROFLThing-NYC!

If you’re unfamilliar with the story, LazyTown Entertainment dropped some heavy takedown action and DMCAed Mazur’s ass over not liking the video, which led to a tidal wave of user uploaded copies to Youtube. Mazur filed a counternotice on fair use grounds — and, glad to report that after a review, the video is officially back in action online.

Free Culture what what.

It’s not too late to get tickets to ROFLThing, we’re giving to charity — check this out

In celebration of New Years, the team is super happy today to reveal our final mystery speaking slot for ROFLThing-NYC.

Specifically: we’re glad to announce that Jamie Wilkinson (who’ll be rolling deep with Serious Business later in the evening on the 24th) will be heading a panel showcasing “Firefox Art” — creative, experimental add-ons that twist the web experience (see e.g. Add-Art) — and discussing creativity on- and with- the web, and the specific possibilities presented by Firefox extensions, advances in javascript, and open-source generally.

In addition to Jamie, the panel will feature fellow F.A.T. member Steve Lambert (who you may remember from the NYTimes Special Edition project a month back, among other projects), and Tobias Leingruber, programmer of China Channel and the co-creator of Pirates of the Amazon. They’ll also be talking about ArtZilla, an awesome repository for Firefox add-on projects usually denied from listing on the addons.mozilla.org universe for being “useless art.”

Badass? You betcha.

Sorry about the delay in posting folks, we partied a little too much after AnnounceCon 2008 and spent yesterday recovering. You know how it goes.

At any rate, totally major news coming out today that that the ROFLTeam has officially confirmed Serious Bu$iness, the official DJ crew of the badass folks at The Free Art and Technology Lab (whose blog @ FFFFF.AT, is major would buy again stuff, btw), for the ROFLThing party on the evening of the 24th. As per their usual style, they’ll be on the wheels of steel, dropping some major awesome for the dance floor.

Stuff is going to get bananas.

Serious Business is Jamie Dubs, Mike McGill, Tackleberry, and Bennett4Senate. Jamie’s also been hashing out our final panel/speaker event for ROFLThing-NYC behind the scenes, and we’ll probably announce the deets on that in the next few days. Stay tuned.
