Eric Schoenborn is a classic case of old lawyers meet new media.

He’s the American Civil Liberties Union’s Director of Website Communications, and comes from a visual/digital media background (watch out, turn your audio down). Before working with ACLU, he had a history of consulting for cool non-profits, making their messages clearer and more accessible. In fact, he even helped MoveOn.org with their awesome Bush in 30 Seconds ad campaign/competition.

Right now, he’s pushing the ACLU in a more interactive and visually engaging direction (Eric says they’re working on a slick visual refresh for their blog), which is cool, considering their historical outreach consists largely of white-papers and press releases. Of course the ACLU isn’t a new meme, but we’re still very interested to learn how a traditional activism-oriented organization reacts in this fresh battleground. I’m personally interested in hearing about the speed at which an organization like ACLU can move in this age — how quickly decisions can be made and acted upon.

Eric will be a panelist on the PWNING FOR MANKIND panel.

Want to Premiere Your Video at ROFLCon?

This is slightly short notice, but if you have a video you’re getting ready to release, here is your chance to premiere it to a ROFLCon audience!

packed house

Ji Lee and I are curating a session of sleeper hits, and we had some interest from a few ROFLCon guests who wanted to showcase new video at ROFLCon. This sounded great to us, so we’re going to be opening our show with a few world premiere videos! We’ll also have the show playing during the huge reception event on Saturday evening, so this stuff will be reaching a lot of eyeballs.

We figured we’d open this opportunity up to the internet at large and see if there is anyone else with awesome unreleased video that they would want showcased for the first time at ROFLCon.

Sound good? Get in touch. We’ll need to preview the video before we can promise anything, so please send a link with a bio to dean at pculture.org

Stuff White People Like Will Be At ROFLCon

#64: Recycling. White people like recycling.

While white people like things like The Wire (no kidding: best show most recently on television), Stuff White People Like, apparently, likes ROFLCon.

That’s right, Christian Lander, founder and writer behind recent internet superstar blawg Stuff White People Like, will be at ROFLCon! On a lark from several attendee requests and the team, we sent a feeler-out e-mail just about a week ago and were supremely excited to hear the positive response. Right now, Christian will be hanging out in the audience and lurking around the conference, but we’re seeing if we can’t work a speaking spot out for him with the schedule reshuffle as we optimize space for the event.

Totally, utterly amazing. If you guys have ideas for existing/new events or panels you’d be interested in seeing him on, comment here!

Trip to Florida took me longer than I thought it would, so the newest (and potentially final?) conference schedule iteration will be coming up early next week! Stay tuned…

Avi Muchnick, the founder of that cornucopia of Photoshopping delights Worth1000, is coming to ROFLCon! Just got an e-mail from him a few days ago and before you know it, he’s decided to come and be a part of the conference. As part of our continually growing pool of internet celebs who’ll be there to meet their “colleagues” and otherwise lurk around in the audience, Avi will be rocking out with us in Cambridge. Totally badass.
